How to Take Years Off of Your Appearance

While you can't stop the passage of time, there are steps you can take to reduce the visible signs of ageing. Read on for some tips on how to retain a youthful appearance during the later years of your life.

Choose the right hair colour

The colour of your hair can have a dramatic impact on how old you look. Although there's absolutely nothing wrong with embracing your grey hair (in fact, this is a trend which has become increasingly common in recent years), there's no denying that silvery tresses can be quite ageing. As such, if you're starting to notice some white strands and are keen to shave a few years off of your appearance, it's best to pay a visit to a hairdresser for a consultation. They will be able to determine which tones will best suit your individual colouring.

As a general rule of thumb, the older you get, the less flattering harsh colours such as jet black, pillar-box red and platinum blonde become; these shades can create a stark contrast between a person's hair and their complexion, which tends to emphasise fine lines and wrinkles and thus make them appear older than they really are. To achieve a younger look, opt for less extreme shades; for instance, if you have always had black hair, consider lightening up to a dark brunette. Similarly, those who have been white blonde may be better off switching to an ashy or honey blonde hue instead.

Invest in a few cosmetic procedures

Plastic surgery can be a fantastic way to reverse some of the most noticeable signs of ageing; however, it's quite a radical and expensive option, which many people are simply not prepared to take. For those in search of a less drastic alternative to going under the knife, anti wrinkle injections could be the answer.

While there are a few different types of injectables, the most frequently-used ones are designed to temporarily paralyse the muscles of the face which, when contracted, cause wrinkles. When used sparingly and administered by a qualified medical professional, anti wrinkle injections are extremely effective in reducing or eliminating things like frown lines and crow's feet.

Fillers are another form of injectable which can be useful for restoring volume to areas like the cheeks and chin. These parts of the face often lose fat and develop a hollow look as a person ages. Filler injections, as the name implies, 'fill' these areas with a gel-like substance, to achieve a plumped-up, youthful appearance.
